Artista, designer e architetto, Ryota Matsumoto è riconosciuto a livello internazionale come uno dei capostipiti del movimento dell'arte e dell'architettura postdigitale.
Il suo approccio artistico trascende i confini tradizionali dell'arte visiva, fondendo tecnologie digitali, mixed media e design interdisciplinare.
Nato a Tokyo, è cresciuto a Hong Kong e in Giappone. Ha conseguito un Master in Architettura presso l'Università della Pennsylvania nel 2007, dopo aver studiato presso l'Architectural Association di Londra e la Mackintosh School of Architecture, la Scuola d'Arte di Glasgow, nei primi anni '90. Ha collaborato in precedenza con un cofondatore del Movimento Metabolista, Kisho Kurokawa, e con Arata Isozaki, Peter Christopherson e il MIT Media Lab. È stato professore aggiunto del programma MFA presso il Transart Institute for Creative Research dell'Università di Plymouth. Attualmente lavora come ricercatore associato e consulente senior rispettivamente per il New Centre of Research & Practice e per il City of Dallas Office of Art and Culture. Ha partecipato come critico ospite a rassegne di design presso la Cornell University, la Cooper Union, la Columbia GSAPP, la Rhode Island School of Design e il Pratt Institute.
As an artist, designer, and architect, Ryota Matsumoto is internationally recognized as one of the progenitors of the postdigital art and architecture movement.
His artistic approach transcends traditional boundaries of visual art, blending digital technologies, mixed media, and interdisciplinary design.
Born in Tokyo, he was raised in Hong Kong and Japan. He received a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007 after his studies at the Architectural Association in London and Mackintosh School of Architecture, the Glasgow School of Art in the early 90’s.
He has previously collaborated with a cofounder of the Metabolist Movement, Kisho Kurokawa, and with Arata Isozaki, Peter Christopherson, and MIT Media Lab.
He has served as the adjunct professor of the MFA program at Transart Institute for Creative Research, University of Plymouth. He is currently working as a research associate and senior consultant for the New Centre of Research & Practice and the City of Dallas Office of Art and Culture respectively. He has been active as a guest critic on design reviews at Cornell University, Cooper Union, Columbia GSAPP, Rhode Island School of Design, and Pratt Institute.
