Saul is seeking team members who can complement his research-heavy approach with technical implementation in:
Storytelling through motion.
Scientific and ecological systems thinking.
Advanced optics and sensor-based interaction.
Project Vision Saul Villegas explores the moral weight that emerges when humans, machines, and ecosystems collaborate. His vision is centered on the act of witnessing—choosing when and how to archive the world through light and environment. By manipulating the duration of photography and video, he seeks to slow, stretch, or compress perception to shape how reality is remembered. His work is an ethical act of archiving an ever-changing environment, with a particular focus on non-human sentience, including ecosystems, animals, and insects. At the Center for Coastal Resilience at UCSC, he is currently developing work that humanizes these scientific stories, ensuring that the technology of pattern recognition remains grounded in the present through continual human input.
The New Human is...
The New Human is an embodied being navigating time and light with awareness. This archetype views the explorer mindset as a path to stewardship, using technology not to dominate but to preserve, interpret, and imagine futures that are ecologically sustainable
