We recently found ourselves mesmerized by Wplace — a playful, collective art project where people around the world are creating a living canvas, one pixel at a time.
It’s built on top of Google Maps, so most folks start by painting right over their own neighborhood. From there, it spreads. Colors, shapes, memes, protest signs, pop culture references — all layered and re-layered in real time.
It’s chaotic. It’s funny. It’s emotional. And it’s completely made by people — not platforms. A wild, global experiment in collective creativity, one pixel at a time.
At CODAME, we’re all about this kind of borderless expression — art that grows through collaboration, tech that brings us closer, and experiences that spark wonder.
Art Without Borders
At CODAME, we’re always looking for new ways to explore how art and technology intersect — not as a replacement, but as a conversation. Wplace feels like part of that ongoing dialogue.
It’s art made by people, across cultures, countries, and time zones. It’s not about ownership. Or polish. It’s about showing up and playing. Pixels become brushstrokes. Territories overlap. What survives is what we protect together. It’s messy, and that’s part of the beauty. This is art that sends a signal — not from any one place, but from all of us at once.
The Joy of Making Together
Projects like this remind us why we do what we do at CODAME. We create space for collaboration, not competition. We celebrate trying new things — even if they don’t turn out the way we planned. We invite curiosity over certainty, and process over perfection. Whether it’s at a festival, a workshop, or a late-night jam session, what matters most is the joy of making — together. With others. With tools. With openness.
Art created with technology, not consumed by it. Art that moves between hands, cultures, and emotions. Art that’s alive because it’s shared.
Keep Exploring With Us
We’ll keep exploring what’s possible when creativity is communal. We’ll keep building places — physical and digital — where that can happen. And we hope you’ll join us.
If you’d like to get involved — as an artist, collaborator, volunteer, or supporter — we’d love to connect. This work is fueled by community, and made for anyone curious enough to try something new. Let’s keep building it. Together.
