Mapping the Vulnerability of Augmentation
Erika Marthins: The New Human - Creative Hackathon Submission

Join the Team
Erika Marthins is looking for collaborators who can bridge the gap between technical execution and experiential design. She is specifically seeking:
Alchemists with skills in code, AI systems, hardware, or interactive media
Storyworld Architects or performers to shape how prototypes are perceived and felt
Research-driven thinkers interested in mapping systems and questioning assumptions
Erika Marthins views “The New Human” not as a destination but as a condition defined by the tension between augmentation and vulnerability. She is fascinated by how technologies designed to optimize the human form often end up exposing our deep dependencies, biases, and inherent limits. Her vision explores the redistribution of intelligence, agency, and care between biological bodies and machine systems. Rather than aiming for a perfected future, she seeks to prototype tangible moments—experienced through food, interfaces, or specific environments—that allow participants to sense what is being gained, lost, or quietly transformed.
The New Human is...
The New Human is a vulnerable system. For Marthins, this means acknowledging that as we augment our capabilities, we also redistribute our agency into systems we no longer fully control. Her work seeks to make these shifts tangible through the senses, ensuring the human remains a central, albeit transformed, part of the equation.
